
Shiro Wot
Shiro Wot is sometimes considered a delicacy. Lucky for us it is not too hard to prepare. The main ingredients are Shiro, a flour made from chickpeas (garbanzo beans) and Berbere, an Ethiopian spice mixture which adds a bit of heat.

Shiro Wot Ingredients
Shop now for all your Ethiopian Ingredients at Fiker Market in the International Markets on 44th.
- 1 onion
- 4 tablespoons of Niter Kibbeh Ethiopian spiced oil (or olive oil)
- 6 cloves of garlic
- 2 cups hot water
- 1/2 cup Shiro (Chickpea Flour)
- 2 tablespoons Berbere spice mix
- Salt and Pepper to taste
Directions
- Mince garlic and onion.
- Saute garlic and onion in 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a one-quart pot.
- Once onions are caramelized, add 3 tablespoons cup of hot water.
- Start slowly adding water and Shiro flour, stirring constantly until it thickens.
- Add berbere.
- Mix in salt and pepper, top with remaining olive oil.
- Serve with Injera bread
- Add seasoned beef cuts for a non-vegetarian option.
